Iceland’s second city and “capital of the north”, akureyri is a great base for touring the rugged northern coastline, the hotel itself is located in the student dwelling of the akureyri high-up school, in the heart of the town, in the centre of town are cafés, restaurants, a large selection of shops, and other services (banks, post office etc. ). The kjarnaskógur woods are just outside the town offering a variety of pleasant walks. Akureyri has numerous museums, including the persons museum, uncomplicated history museum and nonnahús, the childhood home of author jón sveinsson. Nearby are kjarnaskogur and vaglaskogur woodlands and top salmon, trout and sea fishing. In timely summer, the sight of the sun on the horizon at midnight is like no other.
