Location Description
:
The hotel is located adjacent to the midfjardara river in midfjordur, midway between reykjavik and akureyri. Midfjardara is single of iceland s best salmon rivers. Laugarbakki is a village with a population of about 80. The hotel site was previously known as langafit; according to the saga of grettir, horsefights took place here in olden times. At hvammstangi (10 km from the hotel) is a 25-metre swimming pool with hot tups. There are also hot tups at laugarbakki (1 km from the hotel). Hot springs at laugarbakki provide sufficient hot water to heat the community of hvammstangi; the hot water is also used to heat greenhouses at laugarbakki. The community has a sports hall that is ideal for big functions, hot tups, a camping site, a community centre and a food store.
